Ludlow YFC wins county club challenge and has national success
Ludlow YFC wins County Club Challenge
Members of the south Shropshire Ludlow Young Farmers Club are celebrating after winning the coveted Shropshire YFC club challenge as the competition season comes to an end, beating all 18 other clubs in the county.
The final was a random assortment of challenges held at Minsterley Show. Ludlow came head to head in the final against members from Chirbury and Marton. From the 6 challenges presented, Ludlow showed ingenuity and won 4 of them, much to the good humour of the other clubs and the delight of Ludlow. Challenges ranged from decorating ginger bread men, guessing the weights of farm-yard animals, free-style acting to hide and seek matches.
The summer has been great for Ludlow YFC, achieving podium position at the national hockey competition recently in Warwickshire was a major highlight. Jack Phasey led the seven member team to victory against Hereford placing Ludlow in the national top four. Ludlow also celebrated a volleyball achievement at county level reaching 4th place against many other Shropshire Clubs. Other achievements include the Shropshire County Rally competition which saw Ludlow become leaders at Stock judging. After much practicing club leaders have linked the strong support from many local livestock farmers to the success, including Nick Hamer, Graham Price, Mark Powell and Nigel Lloyd.
Dan Cooper, Publicity officer for the club said “It is great to see Ludlow competing at national level this year and getting its name recognised, but also playing an important role with younger people in rural Shropshire - before too long young farmer clubs throughout the country will recognise us”
The club continues its local community involvement throughout the year with the National Farmers Union’s charity event at Ludlow Racecourse being the most recent, involving members working as hospitality hosts for lunch service. Club leaders have also been busy arranging charity fundraiser social activities with neighbouring clubs including a sell-out UV Dance which was hailed a big success.
