Ludlow YFC search for past club members ahead of 70th Celebrations

If you remember that the first meeting of Ludlow Young Farmers Club was held in the Angel Hotel, then you are more than likely able to provide Ludlow YFC with information on past club members and up to date information ahead of the club’s 70th anniversary.

Current members of the long-standing Shropshire club are busy organising celebrations for their 70th Harvest Supper dinner-dance, but more importantly are calling for past and founder members to come forward with information.

Former club member Tony Tavanor said at a recent planning meeting that “original members will remember the first meeting in 1944 was called off when nobody turned up, but that the second meeting enrolled 26 members and grew into one of the county’s most successful clubs”. Now, 70 years on Ludlow YFC is still providing the youth community weekly activities, entertainment and competitions as part of the National Federation which has 25,000 members aged between 10-26 years of age.

Anyone who can provide details of the activities, achievements, photographs and stories about young farmers are urged to contact Laura Edwards this summer who said  “this information will supply the anniversary with some valuable historic accounts due to be displayed on the 70th memorabilia stand for future generations to enjoy”.

The club is also interested in securing the contact details of early members, who may have moved away from Shropshire to ensure the receive their invite as well as past members who may have lost contact with more recent club officials. 

The landmark is being marked at a larger than usual harvest supper, due to take place on Saturday October 4th at Ludlow Racecourse with a three course meal.
