Ludlow support national #Forageaid appeal to flooded farmers

Members of the West Midlands Shropshire Young Farmers have pledged their support and ascended to the
Somerset flood victims this week in support of a national effort backing
the Forage Aid appeal which supplies hay, straw and other donations to
farmers in the south-west who are in need after this month’s devastating floods.
Essex Young Farmers’ Club began the initiative, setting the bar for community support.
Shropshire is one of the federation’s largest counties and has a large network
of people within its rural community. Organised by County Chairman
Rhys Jones amongst other leading YFC officers, farmers have donated a range
of items
they can afford to offer.
A selection
of members from all 18 clubs throughout the county met with Ludlow Young
Farmers Club at Ludlow Livestock Market on Tuesday 25th February to prepare
and load ten tractors and trailers for the journey carrying 110 tons of
forage including fodder beat, hay, silage and straw.
The convoy left just after 5.00am on Thursday 27th, descending on the 10
hour round trip, the route set to military precision. Ben Sanders,
Chairman of Ludlow YFC said “I am pleased to see the amount of support
Young Farmers’ across our
county have given, by providing what they can spare to the flooded farmers. I
am also
delighted Ludlow is part of this national effort”.
Shropshire Young
Farmers’ Club (YFC) chairman Rhys Jones, 24, said they planned to set out at
5am tomorrow morning. It was likely to be a five hour trip each way, he
said, and they intended to go there and back on the same day. “It’s all
been in the news and the press,” he said, “If we were in the same position we’d
like a bit of help. “And we’ve got a lot of young lads keen to help out
who like a road trip.”
