Members of Ludlow young farmers club raised their voices this festive season for charity at houses in and around Ludlow.

Supporters of the club were treated with a festive melody of Christmas carols in aid of the county Air Ambulance and a recently launched national young farmer’s campaign “Drive it Home”, supported by national president Matt Baker and the NFU. The campaign aims to reduce the number of young driver deaths on rural roads through educating, training and informing young drivers. Statistics from the Road Safety Analysis 2012 show that rural young drivers are 37% more likely to have an injury collision on a rural road than those living in urban areas.

Laura Edwards, Chair of Ludlow YFC is dedicated to supporting road safety and said “I’m pleased Ludlow YFC are supporting the Drive it Home campaign. Nearly all of our members are young drivers, so it is a great cause”. There are 24,000 Young Farmers across the country putting them in a high risk category for incidents. They drive from a young age because they live and work in rural areas which are not well served by public transport.

To conclude the year, Ludlow YFC was recently presented with awards at the county AGM including first place cup for hockey, adding to a successful sporting year. Ludlow were also presented first place in the County Cup Challenge and the best implementation of PR in 2012. The new year looks to be another exciting one with lots of new, younger members already signed up.
